Outer Space Theme: Game Ideas

  1. Moon Rock Hunt

Materials:

  • Aluminum foil-wrapped “moon rocks” (hide small prizes or candy inside some)
  • Small space-themed buckets or bags

Rules:

  1. Hide 20–50 “moon rocks” around the yard or room.
  2. Some contain a slip of paper or small trinket; others are just for fun.
  3. Kids hunt for a set amount of time (5–10 mins) to gather moon rocks.

Prize:

  • Anyone who finds a “prize rock” gets a mini alien toy, space sticker pack, or glow bracelet.
  1. Rocket Launch Relay

Materials:

  • Plastic cones or buckets as “launch pads”
  • Foam rockets or paper rockets with straws
  • Space-themed team bandanas

Rules:

  1. Divide kids into teams.
  2. One by one, they must run to the launch pad, launch their rocket (blow or toss), then run back and tag the next player.
  3. First team to finish wins!

Prize:

  • Each team member gets a “Rocket Pilot” badge sticker or a small rocket eraser.
  1. Pin the Planet on the Solar System

Materials:

  • Large poster of the solar system (or black poster board with sun)
  • Cut-out planets with Velcro or tape
  • Blindfold

Rules:

  1. Each child is blindfolded and spun gently.
  2. They try to place their planet closest to the correct orbit.
  3. Closest wins!

Prize:

  • Glow-in-the-dark mini planet set or inflatable alien.

Materials:

  • Hula hoops (“Saturn rings”)
  • Pool noodles (“asteroid fields”)
  • Cones, tunnels, jump ropes

Rules:

  1. Kids must complete a course that includes jumping through hoops, crawling under noodles, etc.
  2. Time them or run it as a free-play station.

Prize:

  • Completion sticker and a cosmic treat (e.g. “Star Treats” = Starbursts or a small snack bar).
  1. Alien Egg Toss

Materials:

  • Water balloons or green foam balls (“alien eggs”)
  • Buckets or “space pods” to toss into

Rules:

  1. Pair kids up or play one-on-one.
  2. Stand a few feet apart and toss the “alien egg.”
  3. With each successful toss, step back.
  4. Last team standing wins!

Prize:

  • Space slime or “Alien Egg Putty” (tiny goo jars).

Materials:

  • Foam sheets, glue, scissors, glitter, stickers, googly eyes

Rules:

Materials:

  • Printable “training tasks” (e.g. 5 jumping jacks, crawl through tunnel, moon rock toss)

Rules:

  1. Kids rotate through stations to complete their “training.”
  2. A helper stamps or sticks a star at each completed task.

Prize:

  • Once they finish all tasks, they earn a certificate + mini astronaut figurine.
  1. Alien Says (Simon Says variation)

Materials:

  • Just your voice and imagination!

Rules:

  1. Play “Simon Says” but call it “Alien Says.”
  2. Use silly space commands: “Alien says moonwalk!” or “Alien says float like you’re in zero gravity!”
  3. If Alien doesn’t say… and they do it? They sit for a round.

Prize:

  • Last kid standing wins an inflatable UFO or alien mask.
