Under the Sea Theme: Photography

  1. Mermaid & Pirate Photo Booth

Setup:
Create a backdrop with ocean colors (blue, aqua, green), netting, and sea creature cutouts. Add props like:

  • Mermaid tails and crowns
  • Pirate hats, hooks, and eye patches
  • Tridents and treasure chests

Photo Idea:
Pose each child as a mermaid, merman, or pirate. Use frames labeled “Ahoy!” or “Mermaid at Heart.”

  1. Underwater Bubble Shots

Setup:
Use a bubble machine during games or dancing.

Photo Idea:
Capture kids playing or dancing mid-bubble, especially with natural light behind the bubbles for shimmer. Close-up bubble-covered faces are magical.

  1. Treasure Hunt Action Shots

Setup:
During the treasure or shell hunt.

Photo Idea:
Candid photos of kids digging, discovering treasure, or holding up their “finds” proudly with huge grins. Bonus points for catching a group running with little pails.

  1. Ocean Floor Bird’s Eye View

Setup:
Decorate a blue mat or sheet to look like the ocean floor with fish, coral, and seaweed.

Photo Idea:
Have kids lie down on it “swimming” with arms stretched out or “floating” like jellyfish. Take photos from directly above.

  1. Group Shot with Giant Sea Creature

Setup:
Use an inflatable whale, shark, or octopus as a prop.

Photo Idea:
Gather all the kids around it and pose with funny faces or ocean-themed hand signs (like making fins with their hands on their heads).

  1. Dessert or Food Flat Lay

Setup:
Arrange the themed cupcakes, cookies, jello cups, or sea punch on a decorated table.

Photo Idea:
Take a top-down shot showing the full spread. Add shell confetti, netting, and a few party signs nearby. Makes for a perfect pre-party or story post.

  1. Sea Selfie Station

Setup:
Place a mirror decorated like a porthole, seashell frame, or mermaid vanity.

Photo Idea:
Kids take selfies with sea stickers on their faces or costumes. Add signs that say “Who’s the fairest fish of all?”

  1. Costume Parade

Setup:
Line kids up in their accessories or costume pieces.

Photo Idea:
Let each child walk a “blue carpet” (a roll of blue paper or fabric), posing at the end with their best mermaid/pirate pose.

  1. Splash Zone Candids (if water play is included)

Setup:
If you have sprinklers, kiddie pools, or water balloons.

Photo Idea:
Mid-splash shots of laughter and action are always crowd-pleasers. Use burst mode on your phone to catch the perfect moment.

  1. Thank You Pose

Setup:
As guests leave, take a posed photo in front of a “Thank you for diving in!” sign.

Photo Idea:
Kids holding their party bag, treasure, or a goodbye treat with big smiles — great for memory albums or thank-you notes later.
